Leland’s Fishtown historic district still floats in winter. A fishing tug is tied up to the south dock near the mouth of the river. Lake Michigan lurks off the boat’s bow. Leland just last week announced it will purchase a dredge so it can reopen the harbor this spring. Sand has been drifting in, and federal funding that previously helped pay for dredging dried up. The harbormaster said a midwinter storm brought in enough sand to close the harbor. Dredging should reopen it this spring and allow ferries to run to the Manitou Islands in 2017.

I shot this image inside a building that housed a dry cleaning business for years but is slated to become a small shopping collective with 10 vendor booths and a common area. The warm glow from a couple of light in an adjacent building caught my eye. I like the way they contrast with the cold blue tones reflected from the snow outside.
