The view from Graham Greene Township Park

view from Graham Green Township Park

Graham Greene Township Park fronts West Grand Traverse Bay just north of Peshawbestown in Leelanau County. The tiny picnic area just off highway M-22 features a grassy lawn under towering trees, just steps away from a rocky shoreline.

The Big View

The view from the overlook on Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore makes every visitor slow down and stop. There’s something about the endless and gentle pattern of waves on Lake Michigan seen from far above that makes everyone step out their shoes and step inside themselves while they gaze in wonder at nature’s majesty.

Rugg Dam Pond

The Rugg Dam Pond Natural Area between Kalkaska and Rapid City is a beautiful little spot to visit in summertime. It offers a tranquil pond surrounded by deep woods, plus two different outflows from the dam — this one through a cement channel and another through a gigantic steel pipe. Just below this outflow, to the right, is a very interesting tangle of cedar trees with exposed roots.

The ghost forest

The ghost forest is a remnant of a forest poking up out of the sand of the Sleeping Bear Dunes. There are dozen or so severely weathered trunks standing at various angles. Nestled in a large bowl of sand, the ancient tree trunks are an interesting sight to behold.
